Mojo Fever

While we make our way back from Iowa, our sweet Mojo is in recovery at Vicksburg Animal Hospital. Katie, our very pregnant friend and kitty-sitter, noticed an alarming sore on Mojo upon one of her kitty-care visits. She took her to the vet, who discovered Moie has an absess "the size of my pinky." We checked, and she made it through whatever procedure was needed just fine and, after some overnight treatment, we will be able to pick her up when we return to Vicksburg.
Usually, Mojo is pretty unhappy when we leave her for long trips. Now we are faced with the extra guilt of leaving her in such a time of trauma.
We are very thankful that Katie was able to come to her rescue. Those two are pretty good pals, though:

Sculpture City

After our rough ride, we finally arrived safely in Des Moines, and we've been enjoying the scenery...

Which includes more flowers than we expected to see in one city. And...

A lot of freaking sculptures...

We are, as they say in these parts, "getting our art on!"

Road Rage

We headed out for Des Moines this morning at 10. And here we were at 7:30 p.m....in Grenada:

That's right...Grenada!
We had a blowout on the way to Jackson, and shortly therafter, the generator in the RV ceased working (which means no air conditioning or refrigerator capabilities...among other things).

We took naps and even got to watch Law & Order: SVU in the cozy lounge of the repair shop while the generator's fuel pump was replaced. At ten minutes til four, we left Jackson, we were on our way...

that is until the trailer lost the other tire just outside of Grenada! The blow out was so bad that it blew the wheel cap right off and into the middle o the road about 1/4 of a mile back from where Chris safely landed our rig. That means that nine hours in we've been a little over two hundred miles.
We're on the road again - with another new spare and the hope that our day of being on the side of the road (and in the truckers' lounge) is o-v-e-r!

Farmers' Market Day

Don't forget to go to your local farmers' market today! Remember, growers in your area work very hard to get their crops from seed..
to plant...
to your table!

For the Woman Who Has Everything...

Our friend, Katie, is expecting a baby boy any day now, and we are getting ready for a shower for her this Saturday. Olivia found this gift we hope no one gets for her.
And worse...

Sunset Cruise

Lauchlin has taken a side job as the sole reporter and photographer for the new social magazine Vicksburg Impressions, published quarterly by the Vicksburg Post. One of the perks is that we both get to go on assignments which are things we would like to do anyway. Last Friday night, after our quick trip to Oxford, we took a one hour tour of the Mississippi River and Yazoo Diversion Canal. The highlights of the trip were watching the sunset and faking an attack with the dried alligator head.

Meeting Maria

She's here! And just as adorable in person as she is in the pictures we've been seeing.

She's a little shy, but she likes money. So, Olivia won her over with a few pennies for her to throw in the fountain at the restaurant...

We fed the fish at the park...

And the entire Foshee family enjoyed time together...

After a couple of hours, Olivia was able to sneak a kiss.

We are looking forward to squeezing in some more kisses tomorrow!

Stowaway

We're off to meet Maria, who is on her way from Russia to live in Oxford. While we thought we were excited about finally meeting that little one, who turns two next month, someone else tried to sneak away to meet her...

I don't think we will win any points with this frightening stowaway! We'll be sure to check our luggage for attack cats before embarking on our journey...again.

Minds out of the Gutters

Move over, Mike Rowe, Lauchlin has been tackling dirty jobs all on her own and for no monetary compensation! Our Memorial Day was supposed to be all about rescreening the porch, which we did: one panel.

With staples still going into the wood, however, Lauchlin decided to attempt removal of the gutters sagging in the front of the house. Surprisingly, the only skill set required is ability to get on a ladder (which one of us refuses to do), use of whatever tools are in your house, and a healthy dose of humility. By humility, we mean posting these pictures! No, those are not spots on the camera lens. That's filth.
Check out the action shot! We're just lucky VIP was busy somewhere else that day.

Windows 2010

The same weekend we were at the Renaissance Fine Arts Festival, our pal, Tom, removed our crank-to-open window (that never completely closed) and installed a new, vinyl window. We're hoping that the window installation will pay for itself over time. The back room (where we blog) was always extremely hot during the summer and freezing during the winter. We'd eventually like to replace all the windows, but financial limitations have prevented us from doing just that.
Here is our new view of the Japanese Magnolia in our backyard!
When we got home, Mojo couldn't wait to show us! Unoffically, the window is in the cats' room, and they know it's for their benefit that we had this done!

V.I. People

While we recently attended the Renaissance Fine Arts Festival in Ridgeland, Mississippi, we were spotted by VIP, Jackson's premiere (free) who's who magazine. Photographers from this magazine cover only the finest social events, and they usually capture Jacksonians who are dressed to impress. Okay, so Lauchlin did mostly design our t-shirts. This photo rivals the one from "Bluffs and Bayous" with Gov. Haley Barbour from last year.
Don't we look hot? Well, we were!
