So long...

Olivia traded her long hair for a major style improvement today. She's been wanting to do this for some time now, and, with the beginning of a new school year just days away, it seemed like a good time for a fresh look.
Shana, who cut Olivia's hair, made sure that this cut had lots of texture and "stacked" it in the back.

She's sending her ponytail to Locks of Love, where it will be matched with between 6 and 10 other ponytails and eventually made into a hairpiece for a child with a long term medical illness who can't grow hair.

A Good Week

Lauchlin's first week at the H.C. Porter gallery has been good, so far. She has been organizing files and getting settled. We've had a few friends and well-wishers come to see us, which is always encouraging.  It's interesting for us to work together because we don't sit around at night and compare what went on at work that day. All that will change next week when Olivia goes back to school. Today, we hit a minor road block when we were not able to figure out what was wrong with the music system in the gallery, but, after lunch, Lauchlin turned the volume louder, and it was as good as new.  We also sold a serigraph to a couple from England, which felt good.

Reality

Couch potatoes that we are, we admit that we have watched this show twice this summer. It's hard to believe that any parent would lend these unstable teenagers their children. Perhaps the people who didn't want MTV on their cable access stations in the nineties knew that one day the station would create "The Real World."

Girls wear fat suits to mimic pregnant bellies while their boyfriends make jokes at their expense.

Totally Bummed...

We had a great weekend catching up with friends, but a couple of things were real downers...

When our friend, Tom, came by and surprised us with the coolest video game ever,"Rock Band,"in tow, we were saddened by the fact that we could not get the game system to function properly. Maybe our TV is too old or we just didn't know exactly how to hook it up, but even Tom's skills as an engineer couldn't help us.

Olivia was particularly excited when this movie arrived via Blockbuster.com. Although this show is on a variety of stations at any given time, we thought that a full-length movie would be a real treat...until we started watching it. What the movie contains in length it truly lacks in wit.

Finally, and, most sadly of all...

an over-excited dog decided to take a bite out of our beloved pool. We've already patched it once this summer, and we're afraid that now the fat lady has sung.

L-A-Z-Y

Yep, this is where we will be all day today...on the lazy river at Grand Paradise Waterpark in Collins, Mississippi. It's our only time to get away before Lauchlin starts the new job and Olivia goes back to school. We hope we don't come back too much looking like lobsters. At least we'll be rested!

Stop the Press!

Today is Lauchlin's last day at The Vicksburg Post. "Scoop" Fields will soon leave the building at Post Plaza to begin a totally different gig downtown at the H.C. Porter Gallery. Leaving The Post will not be easy. It's been her lifeblood for the past four and a half years. But, she's looking forward to a new set of challenges when she starts the new job Monday. So, go buy some art!

Spit On the Ceiling

So, we're behind on the blogging. Sorry for that. But, as Lauchlin was clearing stuff off her desktop at work, she found a video of May talking about Vaughn, Lauchlin's dad and May's granddad. He died two months before May was born, but she has, apparently, heard some stories about him. She's a bit confused, though. It's pretty funny. The video is hard to see because of the lighting. And, she gets her words mixed up a little when she is re-telling a story she was told about how he wanted to teach her to lie on the floor and spit on the ceiling. It's worth watching, though.
And, since his birthday (he would be 68) is Saturday, we thought now was an appropriate time to share. Enjoy!

Welcome, Maria!

Refusing to Grow Up...

...is so much fun! If you are a loyal reader of our blog, you know that we enjoy a good dip in our inflatable pool and dressing up for beauty pageants. Today we are going shopping for a slip-and-slide party that will be at our friend's house in Edwards. What could go wrong?

Baby's Here!

Here are the new grandmother, aunt, and mom!

On Wednesday, Olivia became an aunt! Unfortunately, she will not get to see Maria until she and her mom come back to the United States from Russia. Although it doesn't look like it in the picture, we're very excited!

The Way We Roll

The time has come to say goodbye to the BMW. With more than 174,000 miles, it's just not feasible to keep driving it. So, Olivia has been looking around for a new car. So far, we've test driven this Volvo.

Happy Fourth of July!

We didn't have a more appropriate photo to post to celebrate the birth of our country. This picture of May was taken two summers ago at the Art Park at Catfish Row when our friend, Becka, was a photographer at The Post. She just looks so patriotic — and strong!
We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

Good Golly Miss Molly!

We totally met the legendary Little Richard — in Vicksburg.
Here's the story: Mark Doyle, a Vicksburg native, plays guitar in Little Richard's band. Well, Mark's mother died, and the entire band came for the funeral. The repast was at Burger Village, which is two doors down from the H.C. Porter Gallery. When Lauchlin went to meet Olivia at the gallery about an hour before we planned to stroll down the hill to the Vicksburg Farmers' Market, we peeked outside to see all the people. A very nice man stopped us and said, "You know, Little Richard is in town." Lauchlin had already heard the scoop at the newspaper, but we didn't think it was appropriate to bust in the funeral. But, Billy (part of Little Richard's personal staff) introduced us to the band, including the king of "Tutti Fruity" himself. He looked beautiful! We both shook his hand, and he very quietly said, "Hi."
It's just one of those weird things — you never know what can happen in Vicksburg.

Mojo's seal of approval

The Vicksburg Farmers' Market is so popular that they are doing it two times per week. It now will be every Wednesday (starting today) and every Saturday. Mojo certifies that the corn is good any day of the week.

A Favorite Childhood Cartoon Character

... becomes dessert... Strawberries have more vitamin C than oranges (or pineapples, guava, or persimmons), so we piled them high for a real summer treat (sans scented hair).
