The Magic Number

We can't believe Lauchlin's niece, Miss Ellen McLaurin Spangler, is three today!
Here she is on her birthday last year...

And, then, just last month...

We celebrated Ellen's big day a day early at McDonald's. Too bad 30th birthdays don't come pre-packaged like they do under the golden arches — except, of course, with adult drinks and without the creepy, red-headed clown!
Happy birthday, Ellen!

Don't Believe the Hype!

We heard about a magic product called Rescue Remedy for pets. Its customer testimonials claim it is a "miracle" and recommend using it "for any kind of trauma, stress, or shock, whether emotional, mental, or physical."

Needless to say, after what happened to Lauchlin when she tried to "relieve" Clementine, we won't be leaving any such positive testimonials. We wish we could find a real cure to relieve human stress from physical injury.

Another From the Vault

Our good friend, Courtney Chartier, was in town twice over the holidays while she made her trek from Atlanta to Austin and back again. Courtney was at Ole Miss with us while she was obtaining her master's degree in Southern Studies. We know her best, though, from drinking with us on our back porch and watching crappy shows like "Joe Millionaire" and the first season of "American Idol." Now she runs the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection. She's also a blogger. Check her out at Jim Morrison Told Me. As you can tell by the photos, she also knows a thing or two about dirty dancing with stuffed horses.

Some Late Reporting...

Because we abandoned the blog during and directly after the holidays, we missed some important bloggable opportunities. We thought we'd share some of them while bloggable moments are scarce — or, really, since we haven't been so good about capturing them lately.
Here's a good one...
May must have been extra good this Christmas, because not only did Santa bring her Kit Kittredge (pronounced, by her, Kit "Get Rich"), but also The Tooth Fairy came for a visit the day after Christmas. She lost her first tooth while chomping into a pear.

Since this photo was taken (and excuse the accidental Halloween appearance of it, please), she's already lost another.
She's such a grown-up. The next thing we know she'll be driving, right?!

Getting Lost

Barring any emergencies, please do not call us tonight between 8 & 9 p.m. After countless Sundays on the couch, we have finally caught up and are able to enjoy the fifth season of "Lost," which airs tonight. We know it's sci-fi, but this show is so good, we like it anyway.

Ready to Wear

Christmas has passed, but the gifts keep coming! These packages arrived earlier this week from Old Navy. Mojo was pleasantly surprised to learn they were not filled with more kitty outfits! The boxes were, however, filled with practically a whole new wardrobe for both of us. Thanks to the Foshees and their generous gift card, we will be dressed in style for awhile.

Change in the New Year

So, we realize 2008 has come and gone. And, now it's time for a new year of new blogs. You wouldn't be able to tell by our lack of posting, but we've actually been quite productive here in the new year. And, then there are some other obvious cases where we have been less than productive, but we'll leave that one alone. We thought we'd take a moment to fill you in on a couple of the more productive ones with a promise to be better about blogging from now on...

Like everyone else in the world, we have decided to begin the year with a healthier diet. So, we are on our second week of Weight Watchers. We purchased a cookbook and have been counting points like crazy! We've attempted the WW before, but this time we're serious. Last night we had roast beef and arugula salad (only four points, for those of you who care), and it was very tasty.

We also finally purchased a replacement carafe for our Cuisinart, which means our days begin a lot tastier.
Once we get around to completely putting away our Christmas decorations, we'll really have something to blog about.
Until then...
