All that Jazz!

We had a very eventful weekend in New Orleans as we helped work the H.C. Porter booth at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival's Contemporary Crafts area. We learned a thing or two about appropriate festival gear in the process...

We also had a very unfair placement of good New Orleans food working against us all weekend. This was the view from our booth:

Instead of fighting the urges, we dined on beignets and cafe au laits every morning.

The powdered sugar and the wind made for quite a hot mess...

Not only was it a good weekend for food and music, but we were thrilled that Chris won Best of Show. We forgot to get a picture of the huge banner that she received, but here we are with the winning artist:

And, we had a chance to see the Drown family and catch a few songs...

Ready, Set, Sell!

Lauchlin and Chris spent all day setting up for the Dogwood Festival in Atlanta.
This is how the booth looked when all was said and done:

The festival starts tomorrow and will go through Sunday. We're hoping to sell, sell, sell. Wish us luck!

A Day At The Movies...

would be too hard to do in our town, so, on Monday, when we were both off from work, we watched a "double feature" at home.
Milk, the true story of San Francisco City Supervisor Harvey Milk, is a must see for anyone who's interested in civil rights issues.
We found it especially hard to grasp that the setting of this movie is San Francisco, and that the double-assassination occurred in 1978, shortly before we were born.

Following that, we enjoyed Cadillac Records, which portrays the lives of musicians Little Walker, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Etta James and Vicksburg's own Willie Dixon. Yes, it's a tear-jerker as well, but, in the end, the producer gets his just reward after years and year of scamming the talent. The youtube clip that follows cuts off just before something climatic occurs in the movie.

Disappearing Act

Now You See It...Now You Don't.

Lauchlin stands in the "before" image for scale. We had some helpers come on Saturday who work on the impeccable yard down the street from us. Within about 3 hours, they had cleared years of poison ivy and trash trees from our hillside.

We still have some work to do because we know that the poison ivy will come back, and we plan to plant some sort of ground cover, like periwinkle or strawberries, for phase II.

A Day of Dyeing

We spent Good Friday dyeing Easter eggs...first with the Spangler family and later with the Gamble/Mullen gang.
In between dyeing sessions, we surprised May and Ellen with their first ever kites. It was the perfect day for kite flying!
