Where the Wild Things Are

This will likely come as no surprise to most of you, but when the bug man comes to visit, one certain cat has to be put away!
This time she was banished to the bathroom, which is kind of like a vacation for Clemmie. She likes to hide behind the door on any normal day.
Still, locking her up - to spare the life of our bug-killing friend - felt a bit cruel. So we made sure she had all of her favorite things close at hand (or paw as the case may be).
Here she is in her safe-haven:

Not pictured: her litter box, of course, and two towels she promptly knocked off the towel rack.
Gotta' love this cat...unless you're deathly afraid of her.

Hats off to the new El Sombrero!

We abandoned our Weight Watchers dinner plans on Friday and ate at the new, way bigger El Sombrero. It was a Mexican paradise, tile and all!

Newsworthy

From The Vicksburg Post:
WOW
St. Francis Xavier Elementary teachers, dressed as characters from “Wizard of Oz,” greet students as they arrived this morning for the first day of school. Speaking with third-grader Mae Spangler, the daughter of Stephen and Lucy Spangler of Vicksburg, are Mindy Giambrone, as the scarecrow, left, and Caroline Gatling, as the Tin Man. Principal Jennifer Henry said the teachers were trying to “wow” the students.

Stop the Press! May Spangler is in first grade!
And, lucky for us The Vicksburg Post captured the moment.
They did, however, spell her name wrong and mistakenly say she is entering THIRD grade. She's already growing up fast enough!
Here is M-A-Y:

We spent some quality time with the first-grader this weekend while Aunt Cookie (aka Katherine) and Grandmama were in town. We watched Mary Poppins and had a slumber party at our house:

When May learned school would be starting this week, she said, "I think I want to break up with school!" She also demonstrated her need to stay in school when we dined at The Ware House, where, upon receiving her menu, she exclaimed, "I can't read!"
She's a funny girl. And, she seems to just get funnier as time flies by.

Six and Sassy!

She's also a superhero in her spare time.

Green with Envy!

We've been working for awhile now on our front bedroom. And it just finally started looking like a newly renovated room.

After another coat and some touch-ups, the pink floral wallpaper and pink trim...(as seen peeking from below)...

...will be a childhood memory (for Lauchlin anyway) and a thing of the past. Next comes bead board and chair railing. We'll see how we do with that!
While Lauchlin slaved away at the first coat application...

Olivia just drank beer. Must be something about painting rooms green, huh Ned?!

We'll post before and afters next year (at this rate anyway) when the room is finished.

Until then, try not to be jealous of our brightly colored house as we taste the rainbow.

Slippin' the Day Away!

Sean Murphy hosted the second annual adult Slip-N-Slide party on Saturday. It was so much fun to see some old friends from the Vicksburg Post and spend a beautiful day outside in the hot sun. It was a small, but dedicated group.

Olivia went face first...

Lauchlin did the same.

Elizabeth started out with a leap

but then got an extra push from Derek.

Stop, Collaborate, and Listen

Caroline's body has a brand new addition!

During a game at baby Felker's shower, we measured, and this belly is 11 toilet paper squares around!
