We have managed to get in some good visits with family and friends as we wait. Olivia's mom came into town Friday and stayed through Sunday. She had planned to continue her journey south to Lucedale, where Olivia's grandmother lives. But, the whole contraflow messed up that plan. Lucy, Lauchlin's sister, brought May and Ellen over Sunday morning to visit. Those two gave a glimpse of hurricane force winds and the damage they can do. Not really. They were great!
We also had a sort of pre-hurricane party with our old friends Cortney and Fico at Tom and Emily's new house they're renovating (completely by themselves). The Linares Family actually had been planning for weeks to make the trip north from their home in New Orleans (well, really, Kenner). Little did they know then that most of the rest of their state would be coming as well. But, it was great seeing them. And, depending on how it goes, we might get to squeeze in another visit!
Here are some highlights from the weekend...
While Olivia and her mom were out collecting hurricane supplies, they spotted this vehicle with Louisiana tags. Our best guess is that the green in the center is an aligator tail. I guess if you are forced to evacuate, why not do it in style, right?
When we arrived Sunday afternoon to Tom and Emily's new house that they've been working on constantly since the very beginning of summer, this is what the kitchen looked like.
And, after some work...
They had two beautiful cabinets up. Emily was pretty pleased.
The cabinet-maker himself.
We didn't do any of the work, but we took Maria up on the offer of sharing her margarita when we dined at Sol Azteca (we only went because it's the closest to Bovina. It's by far the worst Mexican in Vicksburg!)
Mojo decided Sunday that she's ready to hit the road instead of waiting this thing out.
